Sanjam Garg received a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Delhi in 2008 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2013.
Prof. Garg is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests are in cryptography and security and he has developed secure cryptographic methods to obfuscate computer programs. Programs obfuscated using these methods can be executed as usual but are essentially impossible to reverse-engineer. His approach to creating 'unhackable' software has enabled a range of new cryptographic and cybersecurity applications; many of which were previously considered impossible. Quanta Magazine referred to Prof. Garg's work on obfuscation as a watershed moment for cryptography.
Prof. Garg is the recipient of various honors such as the 2013 ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award, and the 2020 Sloan Research Fellowship. His research has been recognized with the best paper awards at EUROCRYPT 2013, CRYPTO 2017, and EUROCRYPT 2018. In 2016, Garg was named to the Forbes magazine 30-under-30 list of globally influential people changing science.
In honoring Prof. Sanjam Garg, IIT Delhi recognizes his outstanding contributions to teaching and research. Through his achievements, Prof. Garg has brought glory to the name of the Institute.
